Huge Appetite

Joel is a growing boy. I can remember when I was that age, I used to eat quite a bit too.


But.


Even Ethaniel eats like a growing boy and he has another 5 more years to catch up to Joel.


Sigh.


The thing about the place we are staying, its so convenient to access food. The bread man comes on a motorcycle every evening and stops in front of our house (I made a big mistake by telling him to do so every evening).


Shops are 5 mins walk away.


The freezer and fridge are stocked with food.

Both of this boys ate up 4 butter bread and 3 chocolate bread after a full dinner last night!!!


Joel has started swimming at a local club. He swims 40 laps, does 60 push-ups and 40 sit ups. And he eats like a horse each time he returns from his swim.


Did I hear someone say that there is an economic crisis happening? How do you feed 2 growing boys with a single income? Looks like I have to start looking for a part-time job and that money will be just about sufficient to support their monthly food intake.


There is a bottom-less pit somewhere hiding in their belly.

Malaysian Food

Actually I have been eating so much of Malaysian food since I returned but have not posted any photos on the blog.


You see.... I am sensitive to the feelings of my Malaysian / Singaporean friends who are currently still stuck in Thailand. I know how awful it is to see the pictures of char kueh teow, chee cheong fun, satay, curry laksa, hokkien mee... etc. and cannot taste it. Saliva drooling.


The prices of hawker food varies greatly depending on location. Kota Damansara is expensive. RM5 per bowl of curry laksa. Whilst in Klang its RM3.50 per bowl.


Maybe later, I promise to post some but at this time, too busy eating, running around.

Japanese Restaurant - Mokkori

I would like to introduce an authentic Japanese Restaurant which we visited a few months ago. We have tried to return to it for another 2 more times but each time it was fully packed. Thanks to Sean for introducing it to us. Eventhough its way overdue.


We can see that most of the customers are Japanese. That shows how authentic the food is. Apparently, the Japanese never frequent Japanese Restaurants like Fuji or those run by non-Japanese. I guess, it would be strange to visit a Malaysian Restaurant run by Thai as well. But then again, I am not fussy. As long as the food taste like Malaysian food!

The price is very reasonable and food is very delicious. You can get a bowl of rice with chicken for THB120 (RM12 / USD4). The portions are very big. Unfortunate its just nice for my 2 big eaters.

The tables are long and extremely narrow. KG joined us for lunch that day.

This restaurant is very small and run by a Japanese who shouts his greetings in Japanese. I almost jumped when he did that the last time. I just smiled.


Its along Thong Lor, just at the beginning of the Soi on the right when you turn from Sukhumvit. Sorry, I don't have the exact address.

The Roti Canai Man

When you stay in Bangkok, you cannot easily access a Mamak stall (roadside stalls). What do you do when you need a "fix" of some local Malaysian Roti Canai?


Frozen Roti Canai (Indian style pancake) can be purchased at the local supermarket.


When my son have cravings....

It Taste Like Malaysian Food!

I accidentally bumped into this shop which sells really yummy food... similar to Malaysian food.

What do you know, its just 10 mins away from my home.

Masaman, similar to Beef Rendang

Pork Satay... taste similar to the ones in Malaysia! THB6 per stick

Roti Canai... delicious. Eaten the Thai style... with condense milk. THB12 without condense milk and THB15 with condense milk

That was an absolutely delicious lunch... We will be back! Actually since then, my hubby has brought the children there for another feasting session.

Seeing Myself In My Children

Friends say Joel looks like hubby.


Friends say Ethaniel looks like me.


Its quite true.


Ethaniel does take after me... more than just the good looks... is the cheeky sense of humor, playfulness and warm personality.


There is another thing he has taken after me *not so proud to admit* is his eating habit.


Joel and hubby eats whatever they order at the restaurant. If its chicken rice or noodle. They are happy to enjoy and finish just that.


But when Ethaniel and I orders something, we usually enjoy and finish it too. But we also covet Joel and Daddy's chicken rice and noodle and maybe the food at the next table. To us, that makes a meal complete. Slurp!


I see it so clearly this morning at breakfast....


Ethaniel was eating his Mama noodles... He requested for a bowl of my duck rice which I was eating and then he took a piece of BBQ pork and placed it on his plate. Later, his older brother was eating Maggie Mee... He begged for it relentlessly eventhough his older brother refused to share, citing he has eaten too much.


While Joel walked into the kitchen to take a glass of water, Ethaniel quietly took a bite of his noodles.


I hope that is the ONLY annoying habit he has taken after me...

Merdeka! Eating! Talking! Hanging!

The Independence Day of Malaysia was celebrated on 31 August.

We, the Malaysians in Bangkok hardly feel the effect... there was no fireworks, no public holiday, its just like any normal day.


Coincidentally, a group of us Malaysians went out for lunch - not to celebrate "Hari Merdeka" but just to hang out, fellowship and of course, eat. The most favorite past time of Malaysians. What a way to celebrate Malaysia's Independence Day.... The Malaysian way.

My friend S told me about this buffet lunch which is on during summer holidays annually. Buy 1 free 1. So, we all went to Amari Atrium along Petchaburi road in Bangkok.


The place is great for parents and children. There are great and various activities catered especially for the children. They could cook pasta, make candy floss, build legos, eat dinosaur candies and a very delicious-every-child's-dream-chocolate-fountain with unlimited flow. Aaarrrggghhh!!! Would have been my ultimate dream - when I was a child. Not anymore. How sad.

Joel was totally exhilarated with the chocolate fountain. Look at that face. Pure joy! Background is Goolypop and Owen. My new blogger friend.

It was a good weekend because 3 bloggers hung out and met for the first time, Tang, Goolypop & me.

Weekend Buffet at Cafe G

We had a farewell at Cafe G, Holiday Inn (next to Intercontinental Hotel), along Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok.


This is our first time there.


I was personally amazed at the spread of the buffet. Well, so was Ivan and Joel.

I did not finish taking photographs of the whole spread... there were leg of lamb, ham, tandoori, Arabic, Chinese dim sum, Thai dishes & noodles, etc.


I honestly did not get to try all of the food.... There was just too many!


The cost was about THB777++ (RM77) per person and children pay 50%.


My friend had a discount card, so we paid THB700 (RM70) and the children was free. Sometimes Mastercard holder gets discount dining at this place, I was told.


It is definitely worth trying ... especially when they have babysitters and activities for the children while you eat your heart out!

Why the enormous appetite?

I have no clue!

But I suspect he keeps a pet in his little tummy....

A Free Day in Chiang Mai: ATV Here We Come!

We arrived in Chiang Mai on 15 Aug, Fri at 7am. Its a free day.


We checked into our very basic hotel. The children watched some cartoons while I took a short nap while waiting for Keng, our ex-tour guide to pick us up for a sight-seeing day of Chiang Mai.


Where to go with the children? We came here but only for a few days at the end of last year. (If you want to read about my trip to Chiang Mai last year, go to Chiang Mai trip day 3 & 4).


Keng took us for an ATV ride. It cost THB500 (RM50 / USD17) for 20 mins. The ones which is from 1 to 3 hours were very costly. So, we opted not to go. Muak Lek ATV is much cheaper.

After that, we went for lunch. Keng said that there is a very famous restaurant which serves Khao Soi. A very famous dish in Chiang Mai and similar to the Malaysia dish i.e. Mee Curry. It has noodles, preserved vegetables, fresh shallots and lime to go with it.

The restaurant

The name of the restaurant, if you are ever at Chiang Mai. You will enjoy the food.

By the time we finished lunch, it was almost 12pm. We headed towards the Chiang Mai Zoo. We have not been there.  We went to the Night Safari, the last time.

Delicious Thai Food

We went to a new place for dinner during the weekend with some friends who was visiting from Malaysia.


Its a restaurant just beside Seacon Square along Srinakarin road. It's called Bueng something. Cannot remember the full name. The restaurant is just beside a man made lake and the ambiance was very nice. They have a sampan which ferry us across to our table. Alternatively, we can always walk there ourselves. But it was just a cool experience being able to cross the lake via a sampan. Ethaniel was absolutely exhilarated by the fishes which swam alongside the sampan (Joel was away at a sleepover with KG).

The other end of the lake filled with small little huts. With reservations, a few family can sit and have a wonderful dinner together.

The dinner itself was absolutely delicious. We ordered some typical Thai dishes. I was shocked at the speed which our food arrived. It was hardly 10 mins before our first dish arrived! Considering the restaurant was so packed.
